Oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus) are sometimes used to support cardiovascular health and circulation. The scientific basis for this use is modest but emerging. Oyster mushrooms contain several bioactive compounds, including beta-glucans, lovastatin (a natural statin), and various antioxidants. Some animal and in vitro studies suggest these compounds can lower cholesterol levels and improve endothelial function, which are important for healthy circulation. For instance, lovastatin can inhibit cholesterol synthesis, potentially reducing atherosclerosis risk. Beta-glucans have been shown to improve lipid profiles and may contribute to vascular health.

Human clinical evidence directly linking oyster mushroom supplementation to improved circulation is limited. A few small studies indicate potential cholesterol-lowering effects in people, but robust trials focused specifically on circulation or vascular outcomes are lacking.
