Evidence supporting the use of: Capillary artemisia
For the health condition: Circulation (to the brain)
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
Capillary Artemisia (Artemisia capillaris), also known as Yin Chen Hao in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), has a long history of use primarily for liver and gallbladder disorders. In TCM, it is sometimes included in formulas intended to "clear heat" or improve "Qi" flow, which can be interpreted broadly to include improving circulation. However, its specific use to support or treat cerebral circulation (i.e., blood flow to the brain) is not a major or direct traditional indication. There are references in some traditional systems to its use in formulas designed to benefit neurological health or support mental clarity, but these are secondary and not well-documented as core uses. Scientific research on Artemisia capillaris has focused mainly on its hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant effects, with little to no direct clinical evidence supporting its efficacy for enhancing cerebral circulation. As such, the use of Capillary Artemisia for brain circulation is supported primarily by traditional knowledge, but that tradition is weak for this specific indication and lacks substantial detail or support in the TCM literature. There is minimal to no scientific validation for this use at present.
