In traditional medicine, preparations from Dioscorea nipponica rhizomes have been prescribed for conditions like angina pectoris, rheumatic disorders, and hypertension. The primary active components identified in the plant are steroidal saponins, especially dioscin, which are believed to contribute to its pharmacological effects.
Scientific evidence for its efficacy in supporting the circulatory system is limited and mostly preclinical.
