For example, in traditional Chinese medicine and various folk medicine practices, saponin-rich plants have been used for centuries to support respiratory health and the immune system. The rationale is often based on their expectorant properties—helping to loosen phlegm—and their reported ability to support immune function.
From a scientific perspective, laboratory studies suggest that saponins may have immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and even some antiviral properties.
