Arani (Premna integrifolia), also known as "Agnimantha" in Ayurveda, is traditionally used in various classical formulations for treating fevers and colds, especially those presenting with fever (Jvara). Ancient Ayurvedic texts such as the Charaka Samhita and Sushruta Samhita describe Arani as a key ingredient in formulations like Dashamoola, which is frequently administered to manage fevers, respiratory ailments, and inflammatory conditions. The herb is believed to possess antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, and expectorant properties according to traditional knowledge. These effects are attributed to its purported ability to balance "Vata" and "Kapha" doshas, which are often implicated in respiratory illnesses and fevers within the Ayurvedic paradigm.

Scientifically, there is limited but emerging evidence supporting some of these traditional uses. A few in vitro and animal studies have demonstrated antipyretic and anti-inflammatory activities of extracts from Premna integrifolia. However, robust clinical trials in humans specifically addressing its efficacy in treating colds with fever are lacking. Therefore, while the use of Arani for colds with fever is well-established in traditional medicine, scientific validation remains preliminary, and more rigorous research is necessary to confirm its effectiveness and safety for this indication.
