Eclipta alba (also known as bhringraj) has been traditionally used in Ayurvedic and other traditional medicine systems for a variety of ailments, including digestive issues. In the context of colic in children, there is some traditional use of Eclipta preparations, often as part of herbal mixtures, to help soothe digestive discomfort, ease flatulence, and reduce abdominal pain. However, this use is primarily based on anecdotal and ethnobotanical records rather than clinical studies. There is little to no direct scientific research or high-quality clinical evidence supporting Eclipta's efficacy specifically for treating colic in children. Most available studies on Eclipta focus on hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties in vitro or in animal models, not on pediatric colic. Thus, while Eclipta's use for colic is rooted in tradition, especially in South Asian cultures, the evidence supporting this application is weak and not well documented in peer-reviewed scientific literature.
