Evidence supporting the use of: Lebbek
For the health condition: Colic (children)
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
Albizia lebbeck (commonly known as Lebbek) has a long history of use in traditional medicine systems, particularly in Ayurveda and folk medicine of South Asia. Its bark, leaves, and seeds have been used for a variety of ailments, most notably as an anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial agent. In some traditional sources, Lebbek is mentioned as a remedy for gastrointestinal issues, including colic in children. However, these references are limited and often anecdotal, lacking rigorous documentation or standardized preparations. There is currently minimal scientific research specifically evaluating Albizia lebbeck’s efficacy for treating colic in children. Most pharmacological studies focus on its anti-asthmatic, anti-inflammatory, and anxiolytic properties in animal models. No controlled clinical trials or robust preclinical studies directly support its use for colic. Thus, while Lebbek may be used in some traditional practices for digestive discomfort in children, the supporting evidence is weak and not validated by modern scientific research. Caution is advised, especially in pediatric populations, due to the lack of safety and efficacy data.
