However, scientific studies specifically evaluating apples, apple extracts, or apple pectin for the treatment or support of colitis in humans are limited and generally of low quality. Some animal studies suggest that apple-derived polyphenols and pectin could have anti-inflammatory effects in the gut by improving the intestinal barrier and modulating the microbiota, but these findings have not been robustly confirmed in human clinical trials.
