Chinese Silkvine (Periploca sepium) has traditionally been used in Chinese medicine, but its use for bronchial congestion is not prominent in either modern herbal practice or classical texts. In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), Periploca sepium (commonly known as "Xi Xian Cao") is more often employed for conditions such as rheumatism, arthritis, and to expel wind-dampness, rather than directly for respiratory congestion or bronchial issues. While some related species or similarly named herbs may be used as expectorants or for cough in folk remedies, there is little to no robust traditional documentation supporting Chinese Silkvine specifically for bronchial congestion. Furthermore, there is a lack of clinical or pharmacological studies validating its efficacy for this purpose.
