Scoparia dulcis, commonly known as sweet broomweed or licorice weed, has a long history of use in traditional medicine systems, especially in tropical regions of Asia, Africa, and South America. In folk medicine, the aerial parts of Scoparia dulcis have been used as remedies for a range of respiratory ailments, including bronchial congestion, cough, asthma, and cold-related symptoms. These uses are documented in ethnobotanical surveys and traditional pharmacopeias, where the plant is typically prepared as a decoction or infusion to alleviate symptoms such as phlegm buildup, cough, and breathing difficulties.

However, scientific studies specifically investigating the efficacy of Scoparia dulcis for bronchial congestion are limited. Most available research focuses on other pharmacological properties such as antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and hepatoprotective effects.
