Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Arisaema amurense (commonly known as Amur jack-in-the-pulpit or Chinese Arisaema) is a species used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), where it is often referred to as "Tian Nan Xing." In TCM, processed Arisaema (usually after detoxification procedures) is used for its reputed ability to "resolve phlegm" and "disperse wind," which are concepts roughly related to clearing congestion and treating certain kinds of swelling or blockages, including some that may be interpreted as lymphatic congestion. However, the traditional use is not specifically directed at the lymphatic system as understood in Western medicine, but rather at symptoms such as swelling, chronic coughs with phlegm, and other forms of bodily stasis.

There is little to no modern scientific research directly supporting the efficacy of Arisaema amurense for lymphatic congestion as defined in biomedical terms. The traditional evidence is thus largely anecdotal and based on TCM theory rather than controlled clinical studies. Because of its toxicity in raw form, proper processing is emphasized in traditional preparations. Overall, its use for "congestion (lymphatic)" is primarily justified by tradition, not by modern scientific validation, and the strength of evidence is low.
