Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Bergenia pacumbis (commonly known as Pashanbheda) has a longstanding history of use in traditional Ayurvedic and Unani medicine, primarily for its lithotriptic (stone-dissolving), diuretic, and anti-inflammatory properties. While there are references to its use in supporting urinary and kidney health, as well as for relieving general inflammation and edema, there is limited specific documentation regarding its use for lymphatic congestion. Some traditional texts attribute mild detoxifying and fluid-balancing effects to the plant, which may have led to its occasional use in cases of bodily congestion or swelling. However, direct references to the management of lymphatic congestion are scarce, and the traditional evidence is largely anecdotal or based on its broader anti-inflammatory and diuretic actions. Scientific studies on Bergenia pacumbis focus mainly on its antimicrobial, antioxidant, and antiurolithiatic effects, with little to no research specifically addressing lymphatic congestion. Therefore, while there is a minor traditional basis for its use in conditions possibly related to congestion, robust evidence—traditional or scientific—for its efficacy in lymphatic congestion is lacking.
