Whey protein is a complete protein source, containing all essential amino acids, and is particularly rich in branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) such as leucine, which play a key role in muscle protein synthesis. Several clinical studies have demonstrated that supplementation with whey protein can help preserve or restore muscle mass and improve recovery outcomes in convalescent patients, especially the elderly or those at risk of malnutrition and muscle wasting (sarcopenia).
