For the health condition: Debility
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2
Jungli-bean, also known as Canavalia gladiata or sword bean, is traditionally used in various systems of traditional medicine, particularly in Ayurveda and folk medicine in India and Southeast Asia. The term "debility" broadly refers to general physical weakness or lack of strength, which is a common indication in traditional herbal practice. Historical uses of Jungli-bean include employing the seeds and pods as tonics to improve vitality and counteract general debility, especially after illness or during convalescence. Preparations might involve decoctions, powders, or incorporation into the diet.
However, there is limited scientific evidence to validate these traditional claims. Some preclinical studies suggest that extracts of Canavalia gladiata possess antioxidant and immunomodulatory properties, which could theoretically help in states of weakness or low vitality. Yet, these studies are preliminary, mostly in vitro or in animal models, and do not directly address the clinical efficacy of Jungli-bean for treating debility in humans. Therefore, its use for debility remains primarily grounded in tradition rather than established scientific validation.
