Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2
Chinese Dodder (Cuscuta chinensis), known as "Tu Si Zi" in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), has a long history of use in supporting a variety of health conditions, including dizziness. In TCM, dizziness is often attributed to deficiencies in the liver and kidney systems, particularly a deficiency of "jing" (essence) or "yin" (vital fluid). Chinese Dodder seeds are believed to tonify the kidney and liver, stabilize essence, and improve vision, thereby alleviating symptoms such as dizziness and blurred vision. Classic TCM texts, such as the "Shennong Bencao Jing" and "Bencao Gangmu," describe its use for these purposes. However, there is very limited modern scientific research directly addressing its efficacy for treating dizziness. Most of the available scientific studies on Cuscuta chinensis focus on its antioxidant, neuroprotective, and hepatoprotective properties rather than its effects on dizziness specifically. Thus, while its use for dizziness is deeply rooted in traditional practice, there is currently a lack of robust clinical evidence to substantiate these claims by modern standards. The evidence for its use in this context is therefore based primarily on traditional knowledge and clinical experience rather than scientific validation.
