Evidence supporting the use of: Fang-Feng
For the health condition: Dizziness
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
Fang-Feng (Saposhnikovia divaricata) is a traditional Chinese medicinal herb predominantly used for its properties in expelling "wind" and alleviating symptoms related to external wind conditions, such as headaches, body aches, chills, and fever. In the context of dizziness, Fang-Feng is occasionally included in classical herbal formulas aimed at treating symptoms believed to be caused by "wind" invading the body, which in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) can manifest as dizziness or vertigo. However, its use for dizziness is based on traditional concepts rather than direct evidence of efficacy for that specific symptom. There is little to no high-quality scientific research specifically evaluating Fang-Feng for the treatment of dizziness; most available evidence is anecdotal or based on centuries-old TCM theory. Thus, while Fang-Feng's inclusion in formulas for dizziness is justified by tradition, the scientific evidence supporting its use for this condition is minimal.
