Fulvic acid is a naturally occurring compound found in soil, compost, and bodies of water, and has been explored for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. In the context of eczema (atopic dermatitis), a handful of recent scientific studies suggest potential benefit. Small clinical trials and in vitro research indicate that fulvic acid may help reduce inflammation, promote skin barrier repair, and inhibit microbial growth, all of which are relevant to eczema pathophysiology. For example, a 2011 randomized controlled trial found that topical fulvic acid improved symptoms in patients with eczema compared to placebo, with a good safety profile. Additionally, laboratory studies have shown that fulvic acid can modulate inflammatory pathways (such as downregulating TNF-α and other pro-inflammatory cytokines) and enhance wound healing.

Despite these promising findings, the overall quality and quantity of evidence remain limited. Most human studies are small and short-term, and there is a lack of large-scale, high-quality randomized controlled trials to firmly establish efficacy and safety. Fulvic acid is not yet a mainstream dermatological treatment for eczema, but it is sometimes used as an adjunctive therapy, particularly in settings where conventional therapies are inaccessible or poorly tolerated. In summary, there is some preliminary scientific support for the use of fulvic acid in eczema, but stronger evidence is needed before it can be widely recommended.
