Synopsis

Source of validity: Scientific
Rating (out of 5): 2

Arginine silicate inositol (ASI) is a complex that delivers bioavailable arginine and silicon. There is some scientific evidence that ASI may support aspects of energy, especially in relation to physical performance and perceived fatigue. Studies have shown that arginine, as a precursor to nitric oxide, can support vasodilation and blood flow, potentially aiding in the delivery of nutrients and oxygen during exercise. A handful of small clinical trials (e.g., Komorowski et al., 2012; Kalman et al., 2015) have evaluated ASI supplementation in athletes and found modest improvements in perceived energy and mental focus, as well as physical performance metrics like muscle recovery and endurance. However, these studies often have small sample sizes, short durations, and are sometimes funded by supplement manufacturers.

There is limited evidence directly linking ASI to treatment of chronic fatigue or low energy in the general population. Most research focuses on acute effects in the context of exercise, rather than long-term management of low energy or fatigue as a medical condition. Thus, while there is some scientific rationale and preliminary clinical data suggesting ASI may support energy, especially in athletes or during physical exertion, the overall quality of evidence is low (rated 2/5), and more rigorous, independent studies are needed.
