For the health condition: Energy (lack of)
Synopsis
Source of validity: Scientific
Rating (out of 5): 4
Ethyl-Alpha-Guanido-Methyl-Ethanoate is the IUPAC name for creatine ethyl ester, a chemically modified form of creatine. Creatine itself is one of the most researched and validated dietary supplements for supporting energy, particularly in the context of athletic performance and conditions characterized by low energy or fatigue. It works by replenishing adenosine triphosphate (ATP) stores in muscle tissue, which are rapidly depleted during high-intensity exercise or strenuous activity. Numerous randomized controlled trials have demonstrated that creatine supplementation (usually as creatine monohydrate, but also in some cases as creatine ethyl ester) increases muscle phosphocreatine content, improves high-intensity exercise performance, and may reduce fatigue. Some studies suggest that creatine ethyl ester is less effective than creatine monohydrate in increasing muscle creatine content, but it is still marketed and used for similar purposes. The evidence base for creatine’s role in supporting energy, particularly in sports and physical performance, is robust. However, for general fatigue not related to exercise or muscle disorders, the evidence is more limited. Overall, the use of this compound to support energy—especially in physically active individuals—has strong scientific backing.
