Cordyceps in particular is renowned in folklore for its purported ability to boost physical performance and combat tiredness. Contemporary scientific studies provide some support for these claims, with small clinical trials and animal studies indicating that Cordyceps may improve exercise performance and reduce fatigue, likely through mechanisms involving increased ATP production and improved oxygen utilization. However, the quality of clinical evidence remains moderate, with limited large-scale, high-quality human trials. For other mushrooms like Reishi and Shiitake, evidence is more limited and mostly anecdotal, though some laboratory and animal research suggests potential anti-fatigue effects.
