Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid) is an essential water-soluble vitamin involved in numerous metabolic pathways, most notably as a component of coenzyme A, which is crucial for the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins to produce cellular energy (ATP). Cases of severe vitamin B5 deficiency are rare in humans, but when they occur, symptoms can include fatigue, apathy, and irritability—suggesting a link between pantothenic acid and energy levels. However, most people obtain sufficient amounts from their diet, and clinical studies have not demonstrated significant benefits of supplementation for improving energy or alleviating fatigue in healthy individuals or those with non-specific tiredness. There is limited research directly examining the effects of pantothenic acid supplementation on energy levels in the absence of deficiency. Most clinical benefit is seen only in the context of correcting a true deficiency, which is uncommon. Therefore, while the scientific rationale exists based on its biochemical role, robust evidence supporting the effectiveness of supplemental vitamin B5 in boosting energy in the general population is weak. Current guidelines do not recommend vitamin B5 supplementation specifically for energy enhancement outside of deficiency states.
