Puerarin is an isoflavone compound derived from the root of Pueraria lobata (kudzu). Its use to support the estrogen body system is primarily rooted in traditional practices, especially within Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Kudzu root has been used for centuries in TCM for various purposes, including alleviating menopausal symptoms, which are linked to estrogen fluctuations. The basis for its traditional use is due to its phytoestrogen content—compounds that can weakly mimic estrogen activity in the body.

Some laboratory and animal studies suggest that puerarin can bind to estrogen receptors and may exert mild estrogenic effects. However, clinical studies in humans are limited and generally small in scale. There is not yet robust scientific consensus supporting its efficacy for estrogen support, and most of the available evidence comes from in vitro or animal research rather than controlled human trials. Thus, while there is traditional justification and some preliminary mechanistic data, scientific validation is limited, and the strength of evidence is moderate at best.
