Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Albizia species, particularly Albizia lebbeck and Albizia julibrissin, have been used in traditional medicine systems such as Ayurveda and Unani. In these systems, Albizia bark, leaves, or flowers have been applied for various ailments, including skin diseases, respiratory issues, and, in some cases, eye conditions. However, references to the use of Albizia specifically for eye infections are limited, anecdotal, and generally lack detailed documentation or standardization of preparation and usage. Most mentions are found in ethnobotanical surveys or traditional materia medica, where Albizia preparations may be used as washes or poultices for conjunctivitis or other minor eye irritations.

There is little to no clinical or preclinical scientific research validating the efficacy or safety of Albizia extracts for the treatment of eye infections. The evidence base is primarily traditional and lacks rigorous study. As such, while some traditional texts or healers may mention the use of Albizia for eye-related complaints, this practice is not widely recognized or supported by modern pharmacological research, and the quality of evidence remains very low.
