Evidence supporting the use of: Crinum latifolium
For the body system: Female Reproductive System
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2
Crinum latifolium has a long history of traditional use in Southeast Asian herbal medicine, particularly in Vietnam, for supporting the female reproductive system. Traditionally, it has been used to address conditions such as uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, and menstrual irregularities. The plant is believed to possess anti-inflammatory and immune-modulating properties, which are thought to contribute to its effects on reproductive health. Some in vitro and animal studies have reported potential antiproliferative and estrogen-modulating effects, but these findings have not yet been robustly replicated in human clinical trials. There is a lack of large-scale, high-quality clinical data to conclusively validate its efficacy or safety for these uses in women. Thus, while there is a strong tradition of use and some preliminary scientific interest, the evidence base remains limited, and more rigorous studies are needed to confirm its benefits for the female reproductive system.
