Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Mantis Egg Case (Sang Piao Xiao) is a traditional ingredient used in Chinese herbal medicine, especially in formulas aimed at addressing issues related to the urinary and reproductive systems. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), it is believed to "stabilize and bind" the essence, and is often used for symptoms such as frequent urination, enuresis (bedwetting), and spermatorrhea (involuntary seminal emission). Its use in supporting the female reproductive system comes from TCM theory, where it is thought to help with issues of leakage or instability in the lower jiao (lower abdomen/pelvic region), which can include certain gynecological concerns like vaginal discharge or incontinence.

However, there is very limited scientific research validating these traditional uses, and no robust clinical trials have established its effectiveness for supporting the female reproductive system according to modern biomedical standards. Most of the evidence is anecdotal or based on centuries-old texts rather than controlled studies. Therefore, while its use is justified by tradition, there is little scientific validation for its efficacy in this context.
