Vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant that protects cell membranes from oxidative damage, which is relevant because oxidative stress is implicated in several reproductive disorders, including endometriosis and infertility. Some small clinical studies and animal experiments have suggested that vitamin E supplementation may improve endometrial thickness in women undergoing fertility treatments, and may have a role in alleviating symptoms of primary dysmenorrhea (menstrual pain) and premenstrual syndrome (PMS). For example, a few randomized controlled trials have reported that vitamin E supplementation can reduce the severity of menstrual pain and premenstrual symptoms, likely due to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.
