Pagoda Tree (Styphnolobium japonicum, formerly Sophora japonica) has a history of use in traditional Chinese medicine. In this system, its flower buds (known as "Huai Hua") are often used to cool the blood and stop bleeding, but they have also been used to address symptoms like fever, particularly those associated with heat syndromes or inflammatory conditions. However, the primary traditional uses are more focused on bleeding disorders and vascular health rather than fever itself. There are limited references to its application for fever, and when present, these are typically in the context of herbal formulas addressing a constellation of symptoms rather than fever as a stand-alone condition.

Scientific research on Pagoda Tree's efficacy specifically for treating fever is very limited. While some studies suggest anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, these do not directly translate to antipyretic (fever-reducing) effects, and there is a lack of clinical trials or pharmacological studies directly supporting its use for fever reduction. Therefore, its use for fever is justified mostly by tradition, and the evidence supporting this use is weak.
