Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Hemp Agrimony (Eupatorium cannabinum) has a long history of use in traditional herbal medicine, particularly in Europe and parts of Asia. Traditionally, it has been used for a variety of ailments, including supporting liver function, treating fevers, and as a general tonic. There are also records of its use for external applications in wound healing, which may have included fungal skin infections, although such uses are not prominently documented in authoritative historical texts. The rationale for its application to fungal infections likely stems from its reputation as a cleansing or purifying herb, as well as its use as a topical remedy for skin complaints. However, direct references to its use specifically for fungal infections are sparse and not well substantiated in the traditional herbal literature.

From a scientific standpoint, there is very limited research investigating the antifungal activity of Hemp Agrimony. Some preliminary studies have identified the presence of compounds such as sesquiterpene lactones and flavonoids, which may have mild antimicrobial properties, but robust antifungal effects have not been convincingly demonstrated. As such, while there is some traditional justification for its use, the overall quality and specificity of evidence supporting Hemp Agrimony for fungal infections is weak.
