Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Herb Robert (Geranium robertianum) has a history of use in traditional herbal medicine across Europe and parts of Asia. Folk healers have used it for various ailments, including wound healing, gastrointestinal complaints, and as an antimicrobial agent. Its application for fungal infections (such as athlete’s foot or skin mycoses) is primarily based on this traditional use, rather than on modern scientific studies. Traditional herbalists have often used the plant topically, sometimes as a poultice or in washes, to support skin health and address minor infections, including those thought to be fungal in origin.

However, scientific research specifically validating Herb Robert’s efficacy against fungal pathogens is limited. Some laboratory studies report that extracts from G. robertianum possess weak antimicrobial properties, but direct antifungal activity has not been robustly demonstrated or quantified in peer-reviewed research. No clinical trials exist to support its use for treating fungal infections in humans. As such, the evidence for its antifungal properties remains largely anecdotal and traditional, and it should not be relied upon as a primary intervention for fungal infections.
