Chrysanthemum species, particularly Chrysanthemum morifolium (Ju Hua in traditional Chinese medicine), have a long history of use in East Asian herbal medicine for their purported anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. Traditional medicine texts have recommended chrysanthemum preparations (such as teas, decoctions, or poultices) for various oral health issues, including gingivitis, based on the belief that they can reduce heat and inflammation in the body. While some laboratory studies indicate that chrysanthemum extracts may exhibit antibacterial effects against oral pathogens and may help modulate inflammation, these findings are preliminary and not robustly studied in clinical settings.
