Evidence supporting the use of: Indian fagonia
For the health condition: Glands (swollen lymph)
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2
Indian Fagonia (Fagonia indica), also known as Dhamasa, has a long-standing use in traditional Ayurvedic and Unani medicine. It is commonly used as a remedy for fever, inflammation, and various glandular swellings, including swollen lymph nodes. Historical texts and ethnobotanical surveys report its use in managing "glandular disorders" or "glandular swellings," though the descriptions are often vague and non-specific about the exact nature of the glands involved. The plant is believed to have anti-inflammatory and detoxifying properties, which underpins its traditional use in treating swellings and infections that may result in lymphadenopathy (swollen lymph nodes). However, while there are a few laboratory studies suggesting Fagonia indica has anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects, these are preliminary and do not specifically address lymphatic or glandular diseases in humans. Clinical trials validating its efficacy for swollen lymph nodes are lacking. Therefore, the current evidence is primarily rooted in traditional knowledge rather than robust scientific validation. Use for this condition should be approached with caution, and further research is needed to confirm both safety and effectiveness.
