Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Neem (Azadirachta indica) has a long history of use in traditional Ayurvedic and folk medicine across South Asia. It is often regarded as a "detoxifier" and "blood purifier," believed to help with a variety of inflammatory and infectious conditions, which historically includes swollen glands or lymph nodes ("glands" in folk terminology). The rationale for its use in swollen lymph nodes is largely based on Neem's general antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and immune-modulating properties as documented in traditional texts. However, there is limited scientific research specifically investigating Neem for lymphadenopathy or swollen lymph nodes. Most modern studies focus on its antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory effects in vitro or in animal models, but do not directly address lymph node swelling in humans. Therefore, its use for "swollen glands" is primarily supported by tradition rather than rigorous scientific evidence, and such use should be approached with caution. If lymph node swelling is present, it is important to identify and treat the underlying cause, as persistent swelling may indicate serious conditions requiring medical evaluation.
