Evidence supporting the use of: Pulsatilla
For the health condition: Glands (swollen lymph)
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
Pulsatilla, also known as windflower or Pasque flower, is a plant commonly used in homeopathy and traditional herbal medicine. Its use for swollen lymph glands, or lymphadenopathy, is primarily rooted in traditional and homeopathic practice rather than scientific validation. Homeopathic materia medica describes Pulsatilla as beneficial for conditions with symptoms like mild swelling of lymph nodes, especially when accompanied by gentle, shifting symptoms and emotional sensitivity. Some traditions of herbalism in Europe have also used Pulsatilla for various “glandular” afflictions, but this is largely based on anecdotal reports and the traditional doctrine of signatures rather than robust clinical evidence.
There are no well-designed clinical trials or scientific studies that confirm the efficacy of Pulsatilla for the treatment or support of swollen lymph glands. Pharmacological research on Pulsatilla species has mostly focused on other properties, such as sedative or anti-inflammatory effects, but not specifically on lymphatic health. Mainstream medicine does not recognize Pulsatilla as a treatment for lymphatic or glandular swelling. Thus, its use in this context is best categorized as traditional, with minimal scientific support.
