7-Hydroxy-DHEA is a metabolite of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), a naturally occurring steroid hormone produced by the adrenal glands. The glandular system encompasses the endocrine glands, including the adrenals, which are known to produce DHEA. Scientific interest in 7-Hydroxy-DHEA centers around its potential roles in modulating immune function, metabolism, and hormonal balance, although evidence is limited and primarily preclinical or based on extrapolation from DHEA studies. Some studies suggest that 7-Hydroxy-DHEA may have less androgenic activity than DHEA, potentially offering certain benefits without the side effects associated with androgenic hormones.
