7-Keto (7-oxo-dehydroepiandrosterone-acetate), a metabolite of DHEA, has been investigated in a limited number of clinical studies for its effects on metabolism, weight loss, and certain aspects of endocrine function. Its primary claim to support the glandular system is based on its relationship to DHEA, a hormone produced by the adrenal glands. Unlike DHEA, 7-Keto does not convert to estrogen or testosterone, which may reduce androgenic or estrogenic side effects. Some research suggests that 7-Keto can modestly increase thermogenesis and basal metabolic rate, possibly by influencing thyroid hormone activity (notably increasing levels of T3) and modulating certain immune functions. However, evidence directly supporting its benefit specifically for the glandular system (defined as direct support of endocrine gland structure or function) is limited and indirect. Most studies focus on its metabolic actions rather than glandular support per se. There is no significant body of traditional use associated with 7-Keto, as it is a synthetic metabolite not found in supplements or medicine until recent decades. Overall, while there is some scientific rationale for its effects on metabolism and possibly adrenal or thyroid-related processes, the evidence for supporting the glandular system as a whole is weak to moderate, justifying a low to moderate rating.
