Vitamin A (including in the form of vitamin A acetate) is essential for the normal functioning of many body systems, including the glandular system. The glandular system (or endocrine system) comprises glands that secrete hormones, such as the thyroid, adrenal, and pituitary glands. Vitamin A is scientifically validated to play a vital role in cellular differentiation and immune function, and it is especially important for the maintenance and function of epithelial tissues, which line many glands and ducts in the endocrine system. Research shows that vitamin A is involved in the synthesis and regulation of several hormones, and deficiency can impair the function of glands such as the thyroid, adrenal, and pancreas. For example, studies have demonstrated that vitamin A is important in thyroid hormone metabolism and that deficiency may contribute to hypothyroidism. Furthermore, vitamin A is required for the normal function of the pituitary gland, which regulates many other endocrine glands through hormone secretion. However, while vitamin A’s necessity for glandular health is established, the direct supplementation of vitamin A specifically to “support the glandular system” is less well-studied in healthy individuals without deficiency. Most benefits are seen in correcting deficiencies. In summary, there is scientific evidence to support vitamin A’s role in glandular health, but routine supplementation for glandular support in well-nourished individuals is not strongly supported by clinical trials.
