Evidence supporting the use of: San-Qi Ginseng
For the health condition: Gout
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
San-Qi Ginseng, also known as Panax notoginseng or "Tianqi," has a long history of use in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for a variety of ailments, particularly for promoting blood circulation, reducing swelling, and alleviating pain. Its application for gout is rooted primarily in its traditional use to "remove blood stasis" and reduce inflammation, both of which are considered contributing factors in TCM theory for conditions presenting with joint pain and swelling, such as gout. However, scientific evidence directly supporting the use of San-Qi Ginseng specifically for gout is limited and largely anecdotal. Very few preclinical studies suggest some anti-inflammatory or uric acid-lowering effects of certain compounds within Panax notoginseng, but these are not sufficient to establish efficacy or safety for gout management by modern medical standards. Most clinical research focuses on cardiovascular and hemostatic benefits rather than hyperuricemia or gout. Therefore, the use of San-Qi Ginseng for gout is justified primarily by historical and traditional practices rather than robust scientific validation.
