Fructoborate, a naturally occurring boron compound found in fruits and vegetables, has been studied for its potential benefits on oral and gum health. Several clinical trials and in vitro studies have indicated that boron compounds, including calcium fructoborate, may exert anti-inflammatory effects, which are relevant given that gum disease is primarily an inflammatory condition. For example, a randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial published in Biological Trace Element Research (2012) demonstrated that supplementation with calcium fructoborate led to reductions in inflammatory biomarkers in humans. Additionally, a small-scale clinical study published in Biological Trace Element Research (2015) found that 12 mg/day of calcium fructoborate supplementation for 30 days resulted in significant improvements in gingival and bleeding indices compared to placebo.

The hypothesized mechanism involves boron's modulation of the host inflammatory response, which could help reduce tissue destruction associated with periodontal disease. However, while these findings are promising, the overall body of clinical research is limited in size and scope. Most studies involve small sample sizes, short durations, and sometimes lack robust controls. Thus, while there is emerging scientific evidence supporting the use of fructoborate for gum health, more large-scale, well-controlled trials are needed to confirm efficacy and safety.
