Vestitol is an isoflavonoid compound primarily found in the Brazilian red propolis and certain legumes. Its use in supporting gum health (periodontal health) is justified by preliminary scientific evidence. Several in vitro and in vivo studies have investigated vestitol's effects on oral pathogens and inflammation, which are central to gum disease. Notably, vestitol has demonstrated antibacterial activity against Porphyromonas gingivalis and Streptococcus mutans, microorganisms strongly implicated in periodontal disease and dental caries. In addition, vestitol exhibits anti-inflammatory properties by inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α and IL-1β, both important mediators in the pathogenesis of gum disease.

For example, a study published in Fitoterapia (2012) showed that vestitol isolated from Brazilian red propolis inhibited the growth of P. gingivalis and reduced inflammatory markers in cell culture models. Animal studies also suggest that vestitol-containing propolis extracts may reduce periodontal tissue destruction. However, despite these promising findings, robust human clinical trials directly studying vestitol's effect on gum health are lacking. Most available research is preclinical, and the effects observed may not directly translate to humans. Thus, while the scientific rationale for vestitol's use for supporting the gums is grounded in laboratory research, the overall strength of evidence is moderate (3/5) and further clinical studies are needed to confirm its efficacy and safety for this purpose.
