Eclipta (Eclipta alba), also known as Bhringraj, is an herb traditionally used in Ayurvedic and other South Asian medicine systems to support hair health. Historical texts and traditional practitioners have long recommended Eclipta as a remedy for hair loss, premature graying, and to promote the growth of thick, lustrous hair. The herb is often applied topically as an oil or paste, or occasionally ingested in various formulations.

The rationale behind its traditional use is based on the belief that Eclipta nourishes the scalp, strengthens hair follicles, and revitalizes hair growth. Ancient Ayurvedic texts, such as the Bhavaprakasha Nighantu, specifically mention Bhringraj as a “Keshya” (hair-promoting) herb.

While there is some emerging scientific research suggesting that Eclipta extracts may have properties beneficial for hair, including studies in animals showing enhanced hair growth and possible effects on hair follicle cycling, high-quality human clinical trials are lacking. Thus, the primary justification for its use in supporting the hair body system remains rooted in traditional practices rather than robust scientific validation at this time.
