Traditional uses typically involve applying moringa oil (also known as ben oil) or extracts to the scalp and hair to moisturize, strengthen hair strands, and address issues such as dandruff or hair loss. The traditional rationale is based on moringa’s rich nutrient profile, as it contains vitamins (like A, B, C, and E), minerals (such as zinc and iron), and essential amino acids, all of which are considered beneficial for hair health. However, scientific evidence directly supporting moringa’s effectiveness for hair care remains limited. While laboratory studies demonstrate moringa’s antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, as well as its potential to promote wound healing and skin health, controlled clinical studies specifically evaluating its impact on hair growth or scalp conditions are lacking. Some in vitro and animal studies suggest that moringa extracts may stimulate the proliferation of dermal papilla cells (important for hair growth), but these findings have yet to be confirmed in humans.
