Lavandin (Lavandula x intermedia) has traditionally been used in aromatherapy and folk medicine to alleviate headaches and promote relaxation. This practice primarily draws from the historical use of lavender species, with Lavandin being a hybrid between Lavandula angustifolia (true lavender) and Lavandula latifolia. While there is substantial traditional use of lavender essential oils for headache relief, the evidence for Lavandin specifically is less robust than for true lavender. Most clinical studies and scientific literature focus on Lavandula angustifolia, which has demonstrated some efficacy in reducing headache symptoms, particularly migraines, via inhalation or topical application. Lavandin shares a similar chemical profile (notably linalool and linalyl acetate), but with higher concentrations of camphor, which may alter its effects. There are very few direct scientific studies examining Lavandin essential oil for headache relief; thus, its use is primarily justified by tradition and the extrapolation of data from related species. Overall, while Lavandin is used in traditional practices for headache, scientific validation is limited, and its effectiveness is presumed rather than well-established.
