Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Hazelnut (Corylus avellana) is not a well-known or traditional remedy for hemorrhoids in the same way that witch hazel (Hamamelis virginiana) is. However, there is some minor historical use of hazelnut leaves or bark in European folk medicine for conditions involving inflammation and vascular issues, including hemorrhoids. The evidence supporting this use is limited and largely anecdotal, with very little in the way of detailed documentation or clinical research. Most modern herbal references do not list hazelnut as a primary or even secondary treatment for hemorrhoids, and scientific studies on its efficacy for this purpose are lacking. In contrast, witch hazel is commonly used and supported by more substantial traditional and clinical evidence. In summary, while there is some minor traditional precedent for hazelnut in the treatment of hemorrhoids, the evidence supporting its effectiveness is weak, and it is not a widely recognized or validated remedy for this condition.
