Rating (out of 5): 2

Lingzhi (Ganoderma lucidum), also known as Reishi, has been used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for centuries to support liver health, including in cases of hepatitis. Historical texts describe lingzhi as a "liver tonic," and it is believed to dispel toxins, strengthen qi, and enhance overall vitality. In traditional practice, formulations containing lingzhi are prescribed to individuals with chronic hepatitis to counteract symptoms such as fatigue and jaundice, and to promote recovery of liver function.

From a scientific perspective, lingzhi contains bioactive compounds such as polysaccharides, triterpenoids, and peptidoglycans, which have shown hepatoprotective and immunomodulatory properties in preclinical studies (mainly in vitro and animal models). Some studies suggest lingzhi extracts may inhibit fibrosis, reduce liver enzyme levels, and modulate immune responses relevant to viral hepatitis. However, high-quality human clinical trials are limited, and the evidence for its efficacy in treating hepatitis in humans remains inconclusive. Therefore, while traditional use is strong, scientific support is preliminary and not robust enough for mainstream clinical recommendations.

In summary, the use of lingzhi for hepatitis is rooted primarily in tradition, with some early but insufficient scientific exploration. Patients should consult healthcare professionals before using lingzhi as an adjunct therapy for hepatitis.
