Morus, commonly known as mulberry, has a long history of use in traditional medicine systems, particularly in Asia. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), various parts of the Morus plant, especially Morus alba (white mulberry), have been used for their purported health benefits, including the management of liver-related ailments such as hepatitis. Traditional uses are based on the belief that Morus can "clear heat," detoxify the body, and support liver health. Ancient texts and historical records reference formulations containing Morus leaves and fruits for symptoms associated with hepatitis, such as jaundice and fatigue.

However, while there are some in vitro and animal studies suggesting that Morus extracts possess antioxidant and hepatoprotective properties, robust clinical evidence in humans is lacking. Most modern research focuses on the plant’s antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities, which could theoretically benefit liver function, but there are few clinical trials specifically evaluating its efficacy for treating hepatitis. As a result, Morus's use for hepatitis is primarily justified by tradition rather than strong scientific validation. The current scientific evidence supporting its use for hepatitis is limited to preclinical studies, and there is insufficient high-quality clinical data to confirm its effectiveness or safety for this specific condition.
