Dietary fiber blends, commonly composed of soluble and insoluble fibers from various plant sources, have scientific support for their role in supporting healthy blood pressure levels and managing hypertension. Multiple epidemiological and clinical studies have demonstrated that higher dietary fiber intake is associated with a lower risk of developing hypertension and can modestly lower blood pressure in hypertensive individuals. Soluble fiber, in particular, has been shown to reduce both systolic and diastolic blood pressure, likely through mechanisms such as improved endothelial function, enhanced vasodilation, decreased insulin resistance, and better weight management. A 2005 meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials published in the Journal of Hypertension found that increased fiber intake was associated with a significant reduction in blood pressure, especially among hypertensive patients. The effect size is generally modest—typically a reduction of 1–2 mmHg in systolic and diastolic blood pressure—but can be clinically relevant at the population level. While not a replacement for antihypertensive medications, fiber blends can be a useful adjunct to lifestyle interventions in the management of hypertension. It is important to note, however, that not all fiber blends are created equal and efficacy may depend on the type and amount of fiber consumed. Overall, there is moderate-quality scientific evidence to justify the use of fiber blends as part of a dietary strategy for blood pressure management.
