Macadamia nuts have been investigated for their potential cardiovascular benefits, including their impact on blood pressure (hypertension). The scientific rationale for their use centers on their favorable fatty acid profile—macadamias are rich in monounsaturated fats, particularly oleic acid, which is similar to the fats found in olive oil. Several small clinical studies and dietary intervention trials have suggested that including macadamia nuts in a heart-healthy diet may help improve lipid profiles and may have a modest effect on lowering blood pressure in adults with elevated cardiovascular risk.

For instance, a 2003 randomized controlled trial published in the journal "Lipids" found that a diet enriched with macadamia nuts resulted in lower total and LDL cholesterol and a non-significant trend toward reduced systolic blood pressure. However, studies specifically targeting hypertension as a primary endpoint are sparse, and most research looks at macadamia nuts in the context of overall cardiovascular health or cholesterol management, rather than blood pressure alone.

There is little evidence supporting traditional use of macadamia for hypertension. Overall, while some scientific evidence suggests a beneficial effect, it is modest and not yet conclusive. Therefore, macadamia nuts may be considered as a supportive dietary component for cardiovascular health, but should not be relied upon as a primary treatment for hypertension.
