The Indian gum arabic tree (Acacia nilotica), also known as babul or kikar, has a longstanding history of use in traditional medicine systems such as Ayurveda and Unani for treating infections. Its bark, leaves, and pods have been used as remedies for various microbial infections, including skin diseases, diarrhea, and respiratory ailments. The traditional use is largely based on empirical knowledge, with herbal preparations being applied to wounds or consumed for internal infections.
Some laboratory studies have demonstrated antimicrobial activity of Acacia nilotica extracts against certain bacteria and fungi.
