Numerous clinical trials and studies have demonstrated the efficacy of artemisinin in rapidly reducing malaria parasite loads in the bloodstream, leading to its widespread adoption in global malaria control programs.

Beyond malaria, artemisinin and related compounds have shown some activity in laboratory and animal studies against other infectious agents, including certain bacteria and viruses, though clinical data in these other contexts are more limited and not yet definitive. The main scientific validation, however, remains in the treatment of malaria.
