For the health condition: Infertility
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2
Achyranthes bidentata, known as "Niu Xi" in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), has a long history of use for various reproductive health concerns, including infertility. In TCM, Achyranthes bidentata is believed to invigorate blood circulation, remove blood stasis, and strengthen the liver and kidneys, which are viewed as vital organs for reproductive function. Historical medical texts describe its use in formulas intended to regulate menstruation, treat amenorrhea, and support fertility in both men and women. However, the evidence supporting these uses is largely anecdotal or based on traditional theory rather than modern scientific research.
Recent pharmacological studies on Achyranthes bidentata have focused on its anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and circulatory effects, but there is limited direct clinical evidence evaluating its efficacy for infertility. Some animal studies have noted improvements in reproductive organ function or hormone levels, but these findings have not yet been substantiated in well-designed human trials. As a result, its use for infertility is justified primarily by tradition, with a low level of scientific validation at this time.
